Fashion Show BFF (school for Haute Couture)

Date: 4th May 2006
Venue: Kornhaus, Bern, Switzerland

Concept
From Iran over the Himalaya to Japan: A cultural journey which transported the audience from Teheran over the high mountains of the Himalaya to the land of the sun. The show was structured in eight sections which showed the connection between traditional and modern values through choreography, visuals and music in a mature but playful manner.

Design
The clothes had to present a clear change in tendency but also demonstrate how tradition is integrated into daily life. We were interested in exploring these parallel worlds. All designs were created by the students.

Models
The students performed as models themselves. This kept them involved right until the very last step of the fashion show process.

1. Iran
A professional belly-dancer opened the show. She also assisted during the presentation of the models. We created a dynamic marketplace atmosphere.

2. Himalaya, Tibet
This block began with the sound of wind and with a seamless transition into the chants of monks and electronic beats. It was mystical and intense.

3. Paddy Fields
The models presented their designs with very slow, fluid and graceful movements. The episode ended with a short film showing Asian women dancing in a paddy field.

4. Tokyo
This sequence was the highlight of the show. The model’s actions, the music and the visuals seemed to be in perfect unison. First, the models were in a busy 3D city situation. Then, they became robots and were part of the Pacman-Game. At the end, they presented the clothes in a ‘cool’ way. This block proved to be the perfect scenery for the daring and unusual designs.

5. Temple
After the hecticness of the city came a peaceful scene in a temple, with a spoken Japanese sound on the background. Delightful.

6. Tea Ceremony, Crossover and Fan
Simple. Straight forward. Unpretentious. Refined walking, fluent moving ... A quality Catwalk.

7. Manga
In this number there was a powerful interaction between the models and the visuals: The visuals showed scenes of the famous Manga "Ghost in the Shell". The models acted in some parts, as if they were part of the Manga.

8. Wedding Dresses
Just beautiful.
